Andy Evans began composing after his father died 25 years ago writing an Elegy which was performed by the Nottingham Symphony Orchestra.
He won the iCompose competition run by the National Gallery of Scotland and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and consequently had “Danse” performed and recorded by members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at the City Halls Glasgow. Andy was a prize winner in a BBC competition and as a result his work “and Mary said” was recorded by the Henschel Quartet and the Tölzer Knabenchor from Munich for Neos records.
His suite for 13 wind instruments is published by Phylloscopus. Andy was commissioned by the Mahler players to write “Variations on a theme of Hildegard of Bingen”. Recently, he reached the final of the International Composition Competition Musica per archi 2023 7th edition with his “little suite for strings”. Other compositions include a horn concerto which has been performed by three different soloists, a string quartet for the Aurora Quartet and a number of short orchestral pieces. His works have been played by the Nottingham Symphony Orchestra, Nottingham Youth Orchestra, the Helix ensemble, Dundee Symphony Orchestra, Dundee Chamber Orchestra, the Highland Chamber Orchestra and Nottingham Wind Soloists.
